Donald Otto Nelson

Donald Nelson, 82, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, devotion, and family. Born on December 5, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Donald lived a life defined by the relationships he cherished and the family he proudly nurtured.

Donald was the devoted husband of his beloved wife, Norinne, whose love and partnership were the foundation of their family. He was preceded in death by Norinne; his son, Donald “Donny” Nelson; his mother, Lilian Nelson; and his father, Otto Nelson. Though they have gone before him, their love remained an enduring part of his life.

Donald leaves behind his loving children: Matthew (Lorelei) Nelson, Paul (Kathleen) Nelson, Ann Marie (Michael) Determann, Meghan (Brent) Kenyon, Daniel (Nancy) Nelson, and Sophal (Daniel) Rybak. He was also the proud and devoted grandfather of 14 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 2 great-grandchildren. Nothing brought Donald greater happiness than spending time with his family and watching generations grow and thrive. Donald is also lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Family was always at the center of Donald's life. He took great pride in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, treasuring every opportunity to gather with those he loved. His steady presence, caring heart, and quiet strength provided comfort and guidance to his family throughout his life.

Donald was also deeply proud of his professional career, spending 50 years with Coca-Cola. His dedication, reliability, and strong work ethic were hallmarks of his career, and he took great pride in the relationships he built and the work he accomplished over five decades of service.

Donald will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family, his strong work ethic, and his willingness to help anyone in need. He believed in the value of hard work and led by example, providing for his family with dedication and integrity throughout his life. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing advice, or simply being there when someone needed him, Donald's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Though he will be deeply missed, the values he instilled and the memories he created will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew and loved him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks for close family.
