Donald Kenneth Borta of Mount Prospect, IL passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on September 19, 1936 in Chicago, IL. Don graduated from Lane Technical High School, Chicago, in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1958, retaining fond memories of his time at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX.
Working as a salesman for Elwood Industries in the corrugated packaging industry for 42 years, he perfected his unique brand of corny humor and easy banter. His congenial nature put everyone at ease. He knew the streets of Chicago like the back of his hand.
Don served as a deacon at Community Presbyterian Church. He greatly enjoyed tennis, volleyball, scorekeeping and card playing. His accordion skills were unparalleled. He loved to attend extended-family events and activities.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Anna Borta, and his sister Evelyn Schultz (nee Borta)
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Judith Borta (nee Carlson). Beloved father of Cynthia (Mitch) Czech, Michael (Jeanne) Borta, Lisa Borta (Mushtaq Hakim); dear grandfather to Corinn (Chris) Sparks, Michelle (Neal) Olson, Kyle (Sandra) Czech, Charlie Borta and Sam Borta; proud great-grandfather of five; and adored uncle of seven nephews and one niece.
The family would like to thank Citadel of Northbrook and Guardian Hospice for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
