David Hollie White

David was born in 1952 at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County, Virginia, the son of Hollie and Bette White. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and went on to attend Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Nicol Engel; his sister, Diane (Greg) Garland and his nephew, Matthew Garland all of Champaign, Illinois; his mother-in-law, Stacey Engel, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; his sister- and brother-in-law, Christine and Brian Cleary and his niece and nephew, Erin and Colin Cleary, all of Macedonia, Ohio.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Hollie and Bette White, and his brother, Daniel White.

David was most proud of his work with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services, where he devoted himself to helping families through the adoption process. In recognition of this work, he received the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation Distinguished Service Award in 2006. David also spent many years teaching preschoolers at Countryside Unitarian Church in Palatine, Illinois. His heart was always with the children in his family and in his community.
