It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel James Diewald, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Dan was larger-than-life, known for his booming laughter that could shake a room. He passed away peacefully on January 8, 2025, surrounded by those who held him dear.
Dan’s love for his family was the foundation of his life. His wife, Gini, was everything to him and brought out his best and true self. Over 33 years together, they demonstrated what it meant to perfectly complete another person. His pride in his son, Sean, was immeasurable. Dan saw every one of his achievements as a testament to the incredible person he was becoming. His mother, a retired nurse and volunteer in her community, served as the inspiration for his generous spirit. His dog, Siena, was proof of Dan’s unconditional love. From the moment they met, Siena chose Dan as her person.
A lifelong fan of the Chicago Bears, Dan’s passion for the game was only matched by his loyalty to those he worked with. He was the proud owner of his own company, Big DAWG Trucking, where he built a reputation for hard work, reliability, and commitment to excellence. He served as a mentor to many, especially his crew members, the Big Dawgs. Dan instilled a strong sense of integrity in those around him, shaping their values and leaving a lasting impression that continues to shape their lives for the better.
Dan’s zest for life and his deep affection for his loved ones will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and warmth that will continue to resonate in everyone’s hearts.
Dan is survived by his wife, Virginia ‘Gini’ (nee DiGloria) Diewald; son, Sean Gilmartin; mother, Joyce Diewald; sisters, Lori Roberts (Joe Roberts), Lisa Fortunski (Steve Fortunski), and Yvonne Brehart (Ray Brehart); brothers, Terry DiGloria, Jimmy DiGloria; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
