Cynthia was born in West Newbury, Massachusetts and raised in rural Hunterdon County, New Jersey. She was educated at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. After relocating to Chicago, she attended the Art Institute of Chicago. At that time, she studied sculpture and woodworking as an apprentice to the noted sculpture Julian Harr. Later, she studied painting as an advanced student with artist Ed Paschke.
Cyn was employed for many years as graphic designer and television illustrator. She provided illustrations for medical specials, history programs and children’s shows at WMAQ, the Chicago affiliate of NBC.
She had affiliations with Robin McCown Mumford Fine Arts Collection, Woman Made Gallery, Chicago Artists Coalition and ARC Gallery. Her work has been shown in numerous venues and is in many private collections.
Cynthia was an avid birder and theater goer. She particularly enjoyed traveling, whether domestic or foreign. She will be deeply missed by her loving wife of 32 years Sandra Garber, her daughter Carol Thornton, her numerous friends and her brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Cynthia’s name to Woman Made Gallery in Chicago www.womanmade.org A memorial service is planned for early 2025.
