Connie held all animals near to her heart and is survived by her beloved cat, Baby, grand-cats Amelia and Nellie (Halachoulis), grand-dogs, Rumble and Gigi (Micheles). She was preceded in death by Tiger, Bubbles, Roscoe, Wrigley, and Mr. Miller.
Connie was born on October 28th, 1950, in Chicago, IL to Albert and Anna Snelling. She graduated from Alvernia High School in 1968 and then attended Northeastern Illinois University, graduating in 1972 with a degree in mathematics. Connie began working for Allstate Insurance in her mid-twenties. She welcomed her first child, Steve, in 1980 followed soon after by Kristine in 1983. From Steve’s birth until they were teenagers, she put her career on hold to ensure they had a never-ending supply of love and support to build the foundation for the lives they enjoy today. Her children remember her as a loving, selfless, beautiful spirit that put the needs and wellbeing of the people and animals she loved in front of her own.
In her youth, she was an accomplished accordion player that won 1st place at the Illinois State Fair. She had a life-long travel companion in her brother, Joe, and was able to experience the culture and history of many countries over the years. She was very active in her children’s lives, including Band Booster president, Girl Scout/Boy Scout Leader, band and sports practice carpool driver, and PTA volunteer. She also found joy as a job coach and teaching assistant in Community Unity School District 300, impacting the lives of many other children.
In the last 10 years, Connie found her second calling as a volunteer and advocate for multiple animal rescue and care groups, specifically Chicagoland Bully Breed Rescue, Live Like Roo, and Wild Hearts. This work brought her to her happy place, positively impacting the lives of countless animals and leaving lasting impressions with those she volunteered with, many of whom she came to call friends.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for October 29th from 1-4pm at Pinstripes, located at 7 Oakbrook Center Mall, Oak Brook, IL. All are welcome to join us to celebrate Connie’s life.
