Catherine Marie Al-Azzawi

Cathy was a strong woman who lived life on her own terms. She loved deeply and fiercely, especially when it came to her family. Those who knew her felt her honesty, her conviction, and her unmistakable presence in every room she entered. She was particular in the best way; she knew what she liked, what she believed in, and she stood firmly in both. She was also a devoted friend, someone who valued loyalty, connection, and showing up for the people she cared about.

She had a true sense of joy in the everyday moments of life. She loved to travel and never hesitated to take a long drive if it meant discovering a new restaurant to enjoy. She found happiness in decorating her patio with unique flowers, staying active through water aerobics and chair yoga, and spending time with her beloved dog, Emma, who brought her constant comfort and companionship.

These passions reflected who she was at her core: curious, independent, and fully engaged in the world around her.

Cathy is survived by her brother, Gregory (Linda) Swiderski, and Mary Golich; her children, Selina (Frank) Laurendi, Joseph Guerra, and Gina Guerra; her grandchildren, Michael (Kara) Fuchs, Arielle (Nick) Woehler, Cory Couch, Olivia Couch, and Ava Laurendi; and her great-grandchildren, Carly, Nicholas, Andrew, and Baylin, affectionately known as “GG,” a role that brought her so much joy. She was also a wonderful aunt, deeply loved by her nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered most for the way she loved—completely, fiercely, and without hesitation—and for the lasting imprint she left on her family and all who knew her. Her strength shaped those around her, and her love will continue to be felt in countless ways, carried forward in the memories shared by those she held closest.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 24th from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chandlers Banquets, 401 N. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg, Illinois. Family and friends are invited to come together, share their favorite stories, and celebrate Cathy’s beautiful life and the love she gave so freely.
