Barry Herbert Levine died peacefully in Skokie, Illinois, on June 11, 2019, at the age of 87. Barry is survived by his beloved wife of almost 64 years, Margery Ann Jacobson Levine; his 3 cherished children Suzanne (David), William (Laura) and Nancy; his adored grandchildren Greg, Katie, Sarah (Dannie) and Dima; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Barry is preceded in death by his dear sister, Delores Groskind of Memphis, Tennessee, and his parents, Sarah and Abraham Levine, also of Memphis, Tennessee.
Barry was born on January 31, 1932 in Chicago Illinois. He graduated with both Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees in Metallurgical Engineering from Purdue University. After Barry’s and Marge’s marriage in Detroit, Michigan, Barry served in the U.S. Navy. After completing his active duty in the Navy, Barry and Marge moved to Highland, Indiana, where he worked for Inland Steel Company (now known as ArcelorMittal) for over 35 years. Barry took pride in being active in the community including both Temple Beth-El and the local B’nai B’rith International lodge. Barry also continued to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy Reserves, reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring. Barry and Marge moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and enjoyed 25 years of sunshine in retirement. Barry and Marge moved back to the Chicago area to be closer to their children and extended family. Barry was deeply loved and will be missed by his cherished family who will treasure their many wonderful memories of him.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Parkinson’s Foundation. A memorial to celebrate Barry’s life will be held at a later time. The family would like to thank Lieberman Center and their many wonderful caregivers and staff for their care and dedication.
