Alice Mae Gorman French of Itasca, IL, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2023, at the age of 75. Alice was preceded in death by her loving husband of 34 years, Ronald L. French, Sr. She is survived by her brother Thomas Gorman; sister, Sandra Domino (Bob Beiter); step-children, Patti (Mark) Von Vogt, Ron Jr., Laurie (Glenn) Samuel and Dan; five step-grandchildren, Katie, Bobby, Amy, Trisha and David; loving aunt to many nieces and nephews, including Linda, Pam, Robert, Michael, Kimberly, and Jennifer; numerous grand-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Helen and Robert; and brothers, Charles Kline and John Gorman.
Alice was born on March 22, 1948, to Helen and Robert, where they resided in Forest Park, IL. She had fond memories of attending St. Bernardine Elementary School as well as many other great memories with her family.
Having a strong work ethic and a desire to learn, Alice established herself as a solid and highly regarded Human Resources professional. She progressed rapidly up the ranks and retired from her position as the Director of Human Resources for Unisource.
Alice enjoyed travelling. When she was young, she went to Twin Lakes, WI, every August with family. She treated her nieces to memorable trips to places like Hawaii. After Alice and Ron married, they continued to travel extensively across the United States. They loved San Francisco, Philadelphia, New York City (where they attended the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on several occasions) and Cape May. Their last big trip was to South America. They made road trips year-round to state fairs and many festivals, including annual trips to the Vermontville, MI, Maple Syrup Festival. They had fun going to casinos and Alice would sit for hours at the penny slot machines. If they were in Florida for Alice’s birthday, they would go to Walt Disney World to celebrate. Alice and Ron loved the theater and, for years, attended almost every major production that came to Chicago.
Alice had several lifelong and treasured friendships. She loved being with people and never met a stranger. Everywhere she went, Alice made lasting friendships. When Alice and Ron bought a vacation home in Lecanto, FL, they made many new friends and would spend hours discussing politics and playing dominoes.
Alice was a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Itasca, IL. She and Ron were actively engaged in the planning of the new church building. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM in Margaret Woods Hall, located at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church at 551 N. Rush St, Itasca, IL, with a funeral mass to follow at 10:00 AM in the church. Interment will be at St. Adalbert’s Cemetery in Niles, IL. Following interment, a lunch reception will be held at White Eagle.
