In 1948, Agnes immigrated to the United States. She worked in restaurants as a waitress and short-order cook, with many funny stories to tell for years to come. She married Bill Cox in 1957, and they initially lived in Chicago before moving to Des Plaines to raise their two daughters. Agnes spent her life as a dedicated homemaker.
An incredible cook and baker, she took great pride in her kitchen. Her frequent dishes included chicken soup, grilled cheese, chicken paprikash, and goulash, alongside breakfast favorites like french toast and omelettes. She loved hosting the holidays, where her spreads featured appetizers like deviled eggs, liver pâté, spinach balls, and bacon wrapped water chestnuts, followed by dinners of turkey, baked ham, vegetables, and dressing. Her baking was equally notable, featuring desserts like Bohemian Christmas cookies, apple strudel, chocolate chip sour cream cake, and her signature carrot and chocolate cakes.
She spent much of her time crocheting afghans for family and friends, completing over 200 blankets in her lifetime. She loved spending time outside in her yard, where she enjoyed gardening, grilling, taking walks, and bird watching; cardinals were her favorite. She also liked to play catch, kick a ball around, and watch the kids roll down the hill. Agnes was her grandkids' biggest fan, never missing an opportunity to cheer loudly from the sidelines at hockey games, soccer games, and orchestra concerts. Her legendary dedication was proven when she and Bill drove all the way to Canada to deliver a forgotten jersey to her grandson at camp. She was equally passionate about her favorite teams, rooting for the Blackhawks and Cubs, and hooting and hollering at WWE wrestling on what she called the "tube-box."
She is preceded in death by her husband Bill Cox, who passed away on September 23, 2010; her mother Anna Seckarova; and her grandparents Jan and Katerina, who raised her in Louka.
She is survived by her daughters Nancy Cox-Divito and her husband Pete, and Kathy Olsen and her partner Richard; grandsons Ryan Divito and his fiancée Alana, Kyle Olsen, and Rory Olsen and his wife Dana; granddaughter Sheri Jockl and her husband Matt; and great-grandsons Austin and Tyler Jockl. She’s also fondly remembered by her former son-in-law, Al Divito.
In accordance with Agnes's wishes, services will be private for the family as they gather to honor and celebrate her life.
