William Henry Schroeder passed from here to heaven to be with his Lord Jesus, on November 2, 2017 after suffering with complications from cancer. Bill died at home in Carson City NV with his beloved wife, Teresa, at his side.
Bill was born August 1, 1944 in Oakland CA to Henry William Schroeder (1913-2000) and Ruth Johnson Schroeder (1919-2009). Bill married the love of his life, Teresa Ann Wright at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Livermore, CA on October 22, 1966. They recently celebrated their 51st Anniversary.
Bill was blessed with a wonderful and large family. He is survived by his sons Steven William Schroeder, David Henry Schroeder and his wife Angela, and John Anthony Schroeder. And his grandchildren Savannah, Harrison, Sarah, Henry, Jessica and Wyatt Schroeder. Bill is also survived by his sister Beverly Schroeder Mendoza, his cousins Carole Johnson Boucher, and Valerie Johnson Norton. And his nephews Michael, Brian and James Mendoza, and Laramie Wright.
Bill graduated from San Lorenzo High School CA, class of 1962. He maintained life-long friendships with some of his classmates. As senior class president he enjoyed planning each class reunion.
Bill loved to teach specialized skills in dual careers of flying and law enforcement. He was a college professor of Criminal Justice for 20 years, a flight instructor of Basic to Advanced rated students for 30 years, and a Police Service Dog trainer for 40 years. Bill was a good instructor who always put his trainee at ease in stressful situations. He had an immeasurable influence on so many students. Bill has been commended for his professionalism and subject knowledge in every area of his expertise.
Bill loved to fly. He was a Master Pilot with 52 years of safe flight. His senior pilot Log Book, for general aviation, records a total of 10,415 hours flight time which includes instruction. He served 20 years in the NV Civil Air Patrol - Air Force Auxiliary with the rank of Captain. Bill was a Master Certified Flight Instructor - Emeritus status and a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner. As a FAA Lead Safety Team Representative he presented over 60 Mountain Flying - Safety Seminars in northern CA and NV.
Bill loved music. He could play seven instruments but loved the drums and piano the most. He enjoyed music jam sessions with his sons and grandchildren. He loved to rock on the piano with his wedding ring clanking on the keys. His favorite music was Country Blue Grass and his favorite songs were Country Gospel and 50’s & 60’s Oldies. His favorite car was his white/turquoise 1955 Chevy Bel Air.
Bill loved people. To many he was a friend, colleague, mentor, or hero and to a few he was a surrogate father. All who knew him remember him as a very kind and generous man. Bill did everything he could to help others. He worked hard to lead by example and do the right thing, no matter the cost.
Bill had a wonderful sense of humor and his contagious laugh will stay in our memories.
There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 N. Lompa Lane, in Carson City, Nevada. A celebration of his life and a Reception will follow in the church hall. Neptune Society handled the cremation arrangements only. Inurnment will be in the springtime at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Cemetery in Reno, NV
