Scott “Luke” Eugene Reiner passed away on June 21, 2026, at home, surrounded by the love of his family. Scott was born on August 20, 1953, in Chicago, IL. to Eugene Byrne Reiner and Dolores Reiner née Wikowski.
From early childhood, Scott had a deep and lasting love for the outdoors. As a youth, he was a proud member of the Sea Scouts, where his adventurous spirit and appreciation for nature continued to grow. He was an avid fisherman finding joy and peace in water sports that stayed with him throughout his life. As an adult he always had a fishing pole in his trunk so that he could take advantage of any fishing spots he might encounter during his travels. Over the years, he became known for sharing stories of his many “adventures,” each one reflecting his love of life, exploration, and the outdoors.
Scott was a dedicated Public Works Inspector for the City of San Jose. He took great pride in his work and in contributing to the community. His largest sense of accomplishment was his contributions to the Coleman Avenue Interchange Improvement Project. Scott retired in 2005.
Outside of work Scott was a member of the Santa Cruz Harley Owners Group. He spent countless hours riding his Harley, taking in the beauty of California on trips down Highway 1 and to Lake Tahoe in addition to various places. For Scott, it was never about the destination—it was about the experience, the freedom, and the memories along the way.
On June 2, 2007, Scott married his best friend Margaret “Peggy” Cross nee Hughes and lived a lifetime of love and adventure up through their move to Reno, Nevada.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marcia Richards, his aunts, Lillian Koehnke and Jane Miller and his Uncle James Reiner.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret, and his stepchildren: Tara Gibson (Jared Gibson), Jennifer Ventura (Jason Ventura), Peter Cross (Jenelle Cross), Trevor Cross (Lindsay Cross), Katie Hernandez (Victor Hernandez), and Blaine Cross.
Known affectionately as “Grandpa Luke,” Scott shared a special bond with his grandchildren: Kayla Ventura, Melyssa Ventura, Cameron Cross, Jacob Cross, Logan Cross, Miranda Cross, Hailey McMullen (Andrew McMullen), and Aiden Cross. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Rielynn Ventura Norris and Addie May McMullen. All of whom brought him immense pride.
Scott is also survived by his aunts, Mary Becker and Helen Kowalski; his sister, Lynn Delucchi (Gary Delucchi). He shared a special bond with his nephew, Nicholas Delucchi, who affectionately called him “Unc.” He also leaves behind many cousins.
Scott will be remembered by those close to him for his adventurous spirit, quirky sense of humor, love of the outdoors, and the endless stories he shared that will live on in the hearts of those whom he loved so deeply.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
