

Born on December 20, 1944, in Newport, Rhode Island, to Howard and June McCall, Ron was the oldest of three children. He grew up in both Northern and Southern California and moved to the San Fernando Valley after graduating from high school. Ron proudly served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bennington. In 1974, he married the love of his life, Dorothy, and together they celebrated 51 beautiful years of marriage. They have three children, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren (with one more on the way, due in August).
Ron dedicated his life to law enforcement, enjoying a distinguished 30-plus-year career with the Los Angeles Police Department, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant II. After retiring and relocating to Reno, he continued his service by joining the Reno Police Department on a part-time basis and later working with the University of Nevada, Reno campus police. In total, Ron served his communities with honor for over 50 years in law enforcement.
Ron was a longtime member of Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Reno for more than 20 years. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and generously volunteered for many years at the Reno food bank.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Howard McCall and June Nelson, and his granddaughter, Kaitlin Barnes.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy McCall; his children, Tom (Lisa) Barnes, Jennifer (Nick) Porcellino, and Amanda McCall; his sister, Robyn (Thurmond) Hustler; his brother, Glenn McCall; his grandchildren, Thomas, Patrick, Christopher, Matthew, Nicholas, Hannah, and Nicholas; and his great-grandchildren, Blaise, Julian, and Lucia.
A Rosary will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at the San Fernando Mission in Mission Hills, California, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery.
