Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.neptunesociety.com/location/reno-cremation for the Johnson family.
On January 18, 2023, John Pascal (J.P.) Johnson went home to be with Jesus. He was 85 years old.
His life’s desire was to be known as a man of God.
He attended Northwest Bible College and graduated in 1960 designated as Magna cum Laude which was a great honor. He married his first wife. They had 6 children, John (Lisa), Tammy (Pat), Rodney (Connie), Everett (Marie), Paul (Lisa), and Merry (Vincente). His first venture was to take his family to Mexico to engage in missionary work. He paused mission service in Mexico for one year to serve as the pastor of a small church in Lisabuela, Vashon Island, Washington state when the congregation gave a desperate call. He also served as the pastor at Knox Street Chapel in Houston, Texas from 1967-1970. But his great love was taking the Gospel of Jesus Christ first to Cuernavaca, Mexico and after 1970, to Oaxaca, Mexico. Oaxaca proved to be the perfect match for his vision and vocation.
J.P. was a missionary but he also sought to learn everything he could about the people of Mexico, their culture, and learn about their humor. He and his family lived among the people, and not above them with any sense of superiority. This love for Mexico was infused throughout the family. The last three of the six children were born in Mexico. But many thousands are the children birthed into the Kingdom of God because of his love for God and the people.
In 1994, he married Lonna who had 4 children, George (Rhonda), Karen (Ben), David (Naomi) and Tammy (Fred). On their wedding day, Karen went to J.P. and asked if she could call him dad. Because he was a man of God and had such a loving heart, he said he would be pleased if she would. The rest of Lonna’s children called him dad as well. In fact from that time on, they knew him as dad. Among the ways he ministered after he married Lonna was playing the organ for 3 services every Sunday at Whitefish Assembly of God. Also, he and Lonna both sang in the choir. He taught at Flathead Valley Community College. He worked for Migrant Education in Montana. He preached in Elko, Nevada after they moved there. While there, they sang in the Senior Citizens Center choir, and he taught Bible Studies. Also, he filled in and was asked to preach at the Victory Community church.
Then they moved to Winnemucca, and they continued to minister. They sang in the Senior Citizens Center choir. He was on the board at the Center. He taught Bible studies in their apartment. They shared the gospel with everyone they met.
To all of his children, both his own and Lonna’s, to his many grandchildren and great grandchildren and Lonna’s, to friends and all the people he ministered to, they knew him as a man of God. They all loved him and miss him. Now, he’s enjoying the eternal rewards of following Christ his Savior. “Well done thou good and faithful servant
