Frank Sherry, Reno, NV
1934 - 2018
Francis X Sherry, also known as Frank Sherry, the author of both non-fiction and fiction books, passed July 18, 2018.
Born in Queens, New York, November 18, 1934, Frank was the son of the late Francis x. Sherry, Sr. and Mildred Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Kathryn Murray and Margaret (Meg) Sherry, and his brother, James (Jimmy) Sherry.
Before deciding to devote all his time to writing Frank was a journalist, political consultant, pollster, public relations executive, and video producer. As a young news reporter, Frank won several prestigious awards for his coverage of the civil rights struggles of the1960's and 1970’s. Among the major events he wrote about in those years were the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the "March on Washington," immortalized by Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream" speech. Frank was also one of the first journalists to interview Malcolm X.
A long-time member of the Authors Guild, Frank’s non-fiction works include "Pacific Passions" - an enthralling story of the European discovery and exploration of the Pacific Ocean, and "Raiders and Rebels"- a rousing account of 18th Century piracy and a major selection of the History Book Club.
Frank also published seven works of fiction: "The Devil's Captain"; "Eternity Falls"; “Talar- The Quest for Shadowcaster”; "The Pucka-man's Odyssey”; "Mysteriad”; "Lust, Loathing. Lunacy”; "Arkadia”; and “In the Gardens of the Enchanter."
On November 20, 1955 Frank married Sophie Anne Madison (now known as Su Anne Sherry the author of “My Three Lost Girls.) Frank and Su journeyed together for almost 63 years. They had two children, a son and a daughter.
Frank is survived by his immediate family: wife, Su, his son, Stephen, his daughter, Diana, two grandchildren, Sarah and David, and three great grandchildren, Chaim, Esther, and Micah—as well as the rest of the Sherry clan—spread too far, too wide, and too numerous to list here.
In Frank’s memory you may wish to display one of his books on your book shelf, or, if you prefer, you may choose to make a donation in his name to your favorite charity and/or cause.
Frank was much loved—and will be sorely missed by many.
