Darlene Davidson was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Viola Garrett and Cleveland Garrett. Her parents were affectionately known as “Blondie and Dagwood” (from the 1930s comic strip) hence Darlene’s nickname of “Cookie.”
The family later moved to San Francisco, California where Darlene attended school including Mission High School where she was known as the life of the party. She was adored by her fellow classmates as she was never afraid to stand up and speak up for those with a lesser voice. She also valued her family and always stood up for her siblings and protected them.
Always on the side of justice and truth led her to seeking an accurate knowledge of God. She considered him a beloved friend that she could count on no matter what life threw at her. She was eager to please him. In fact, she dedicated her life to serving God and payed it forward by teaching others about his will and purpose for humankind. She accomplished this by regularly sharing in the door-to-door ministry until an accident made her disabled. However, she was determined to NOT let that stop her and continued her ministry in other ways. She truly believed that once you came to know Jehovah God then that relationship would enable you to endure all the ills that this world would throw at you while managing to keep a happy spirit.
Although her service to God was her priority, she also enjoyed other interests, especially fishing. (In fact, some in her family often teased that she should have been a mermaid!) She enjoyed painting, listening to a wide variety of music, a good game of cards, baking (croissants, bear claws, cinnamon rolls and both friends and family absolutely lost it over her chocolate pies and lemon meringue pies!) and loving on her Bichon, Salty and Poodle, Pepper. She thoroughly enjoyed gathering with friends and loved ones but NEVER met a stranger either. She possessed a great sense of humor with a balance of empathy and compassion. Darlene was loved by all that came to know her and will be remembered fondly.
She instilled confidence in her children and was a positive influence in each of their lives. With open arms and free-flowing I love yous, she let them know that they could be anything they wanted to be if they applied themselves.
Darlene is loved and missed by her children, Jim McGee, Chandra Davidson and Llilanya Davidson. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Cleveland Garrett, Jr., Charles Garrett and sister, Dianna Cunningham. She is survived by her other siblings, Dorothy Dennison, Cleo Garrett, Valerie Jennings, Gloria Hodges, Jacqueline Davis, Joyletha Davis, Susan Sims, Richard Garrett, Robert Garrett, and Jon Garrett; Cynthia Garrett (sister-in-law), Gary Hodges (brother-in-law), Cathy Garrett (sister-in-law), Pete Sims (brother-in-law), LaTanya McGee (daughter-in-law).
