Bertha ‘Betty’ Samaniego Bohn, born Bertha Samaniego in the farmhouse of her parents Martin Silva Samaniego and Elvira Alvarez Samaniego in Rincon, New Mexico on September 20, 1935.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin Silva Samaniego and Elvira Alvarez Samaniego, her husband Ronald Bohn, her son Kirk Fye, her brothers Jimmy and Louis Samaniego, and grandchild Kacey Fye. Betty is survived by her sons Ron Fye, Patrick Fye, Scott Fye, and Keith Bohn. She also leaves behind her brothers Sammy, Martin Jr., Richard, Arthur, Henry, and Steve Samaniego; her sisters Nettie Mae Samaniego, Beatrice (Vangie) Widner, Delores Samaniego, Elizabeth Cheshire, and Katherine Wellesley. Betty was the proud grandmother and great-grandmother, all of whom brought joy and meaning to her life.
She attended Rincon elementary school and Hatch Valley High School. She had 5 children, Ron Fye, Kirk Fye, Pat Fye, Scott Fye, and Keith Bohn. She moved to southern California and then on to Reno, Nevada around 1960. She faced the challenges of raising her sons alone. She did this with unwavering love and determination. Her selfless and tireless efforts created a setting of stability and family, shaping the values of her sons. She worked at a doctor’s office, at the City of Sparks municipal courthouse, Mervyn’s, Target, and Western Village. Ronald Leslie Bohn, since deceased, came into her life. A short time later they were married and had the 5th and final addition of the family, Keith Bohn. She had several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her journey is a testament to an unequalled example of determination and a loving mother.
She spent her last year at the Graceful Living hospice care facility where she developed a liking for Crumbl cookies. She was a devoted, loving and caring daughter, sister, mother and grandmother. She was a great cook, and her meals brought the family together regularly. Betty’s legacy is one of love, loyalty, and family. Her presence will be missed beyond words, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her. On the morning of April 22, 2025, God was kind enough to take her while she slept at age 89.
The Celebration of Life is to be held at 2210 Piedras Dr., Sparks, Nevada at 2 PM on the 17th of May 2025.
