Richard Christian Intemann, affectionately known as Dick, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family. His life was a beautiful canvas, painted with love, laughter, and an unwavering passion for the arts and nature.
Dick was born and grew up in Palenville, NY to loving parents Maude and Christian Intemann. He was baptized at Gloria Dei Episcopal Church and attended Rowen Memorial Grade School and Catskill High School. Dick's pursuit of knowledge and adventure took him to Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration, class of 1960.
In 1963, Dick met the love of his life Carol, and they settled in Saugerties, NY, where they began raising three beautiful children. His professional career began at Rotron Corporation, followed by a transition to IBM which led to a transfer to North Carolina in 1976. His dedication and hard work at IBM spanned 25 years, retiring in 1992.
Dick's life was enriched by an enlightening experience in 1979 when IBM sent him to Japan on assignment. During his time there, he visited the Imperial Gardens, igniting a passion for landscape design and gardening that would continue and flourish throughout his life. He meticulously designed and cultivated many stunning gardens, and eventually earned his Master Gardener Certification through NC State University.
In addition to his love for the arts and gardening, Dick cherished spending quality time with his family, embracing the great outdoors, nurturing his garden's beauty, and sharing his laughter with those around him. His infectious sense of humor was legendary, bringing joy and warmth to all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A devoted member of Wake Forest United Methodist Church, Dick lived a life grounded in faith, community, and love. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol, their three children, Kimberly Earnhardt, Christian Intemann, and Heather Patrick, as well as their spouses, Richard Earnhardt and Sue Intemann. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren, Lindsay Earnhardt, Benjamin Earnhardt, Annelise Intemann, and Lily Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Wake Forest United Methodist Church Prayer Garden, Hospice of Wake County (Transitions Life Care), or the Alzheimer's Association.
A memorial service to celebrate Dick's remarkable life will be held at Wake Forest United Methodist Church on November 11 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation at 10:00. As we remember and honor this exceptional man, let us carry forward his love for life, art, and the beauty of nature in our own hearts, knowing that his spirit will forever inspire us.
