Inga Luise Fiebiger nee Leiboldt passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2024. She was 92. She had moved to assisted living in Smithfield, North Carolina in April of this year. She passed peacefully in her sleep, in hospice care after a short illness, with family present.
Inga is survived by her sister Christa; her two children, Cornelia Payne and Peter Steinke; her 7 grandchildren, Luke, Nicole, Samantha, Eric, Levi, Isaac, and Carla; and 5 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sisters Eva, Gerda and Mecki, and her grandson Markus.
Inga was born on March 27, 1932 in Eckernförde, Germany, near Kiel, the second of six sisters. Her family lived through and survived World War II and its aftermath. She immigrated to the United States in the late 1950s. Later she opened Inga’s Beauty Salon in Washington, DC; she lived in Arlington County, Virginia for almost 60 years.
Inga was married, had children, and owned several businesses. She lived life to the fullest and truly knew that it was more blessed to give than to receive. She made connections and friendships wherever she went, as she was outgoing, charming, and a great conversationalist with a radiant smile. Her grandchildren will miss her dumpling soup and apple pancakes. Inga especially loved spending time with her family and friends over a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, talking about anything and everything and often giving wise advice.
While no memorial service is currently planned, a link to a photo slideshow will soon be made available, and we invite you and your loved ones to share coffee and cake as you watch. Inga would be glad to be remembered that way.
