Clara Lee Puryear Wimmer of Raleigh, NC passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 100. She was born on October 1, 1924 at Redbank, in Halifax County, VA where she grew up on her father’s farm, with 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
She graduated from Virgilina High School and later attended Secretarial School in Richmond, VA. She worked for Reynolds Metals in various capacities before leaving to raise a family with her husband, Cullen F. Wimmer.
Clara was a member of Creedmoor Road Baptist Church where she was active in the aptly named Joy Club, as well as always being there to help in the church kitchen. She loved playing Bridge with friends and neighbors. She was very charitable and always there for friend and family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Cullen F. Wimmer; sons, Franklin C. and Mark C. Wimmer; her parents, Howard and Minnie Puryear; and all her siblings: Alma Sue Comer, Wilson Peyton, Esther Irene Tillotson, Robert Lee, Virginia May Morris, Effie Myrtis Brann, Catherine Sarah Kimbrough, and Barbara Ann Anderson.
She is a survived by her son, Gary W. Wimmer; grandson, Cullen J. Wimmer; and granddaughter, Tiffany Crooker.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on January 4th at 11:00 a.m. at Creedmoor Road Baptist Church, 6100 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh, NC 27612.
Interment will be in Dulaney Valley, MD at a later date.
