

William R. Prather Jr., aged 92, passed away on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, following a brief and unexpected illness. A proud native of Montgomery, Alabama, and a long-time resident of Port St. Lucie, Florida, he leaves behind a legacy defined by his unwavering dedication, resilience, and honor.
A high school graduate who answered the call of duty, William devoted 22 distinguished years to the United States Navy, where he retired at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His esteemed service within the Submarine Force saw him transition from the era of diesel-powered vessels to the modern age of nuclear submarines, serving with commitment and excellence.
He is lovingly remembered by his cherished wife, Patricia Prather, as well as his stepchildren: James Callahan (and grandsons Justin and Luke Callahan), Judy Siano (and grandson Sean Siano), and Steve Callahan (along with grandson Ryan Callahan and granddaughter Megan Mehter, her husband Rakeeb, and their daughters Layla and Kiara). William is also survived by his beloved siblings Kathryn Prather and Richard Prather, and his sister-in-law Ann.
Preceding him in death are his first wife, Millie; his brother Walter Prather; and his parents, William Prather Sr. and Esther Lee Prather.
A man of profound dedication and unyielding spirit, William was a proud Naval officer who embraced the formidable role of a submariner. In lieu of flowers, his family kindly requests that donations be made to a local veterans' organization in his honor, ensuring that his legacy of service and care for others endures.”
