It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Steve Hummer (1956–2026). Steve was responsible for over fifty relatives developing a love for Disney World, as he regularly hosted friends and family during their visits to Florida. After his graduation from Elizabethtown High School and Penn State University he joined Disney and spent his entire professional career with the company.
His influence reached many more Disney lovers during his long tenure at Disney in resort development. He quickly rose through the ranks to become an expert resort developer, designing iconic locations ranging from the Polynesian in Florida to Aulani in Hawaii and Shanghai Disneyland. He cultivated a style of design that even the most detail-oriented individuals admired, receiving numerous accolades and recognitions for his work over the years.
Following his retirement in 2016 Steve moved to Fort Lauderdale to enjoy life at the beach. He loved traveling, whether it was enjoying drinks and sun on a Caribbean cruise, skiing in Oregon, or visiting Europe with George, Mike, Bill, and his many friends.
Steve lived a very independent life and was a natural problem solver. He knew how to fix anything, organize any space, and was always the life of the party. He lived with zest and a sense of fun; even when a hurricane was approaching, his preparation list famously began with: “Adult Beverages - Beer, Liquor and Mixers—can't have too much.”
After years of battling health issues, culminating in a Parkinson’s diagnosis, Steve is finally at peace. He is fondly remembered by his best friends, George Fletcher, Mike Cutter, and Bill Fleming; his siblings, Linda (Bob) Kaylor, Vicki (Bob) Dolan, Jeff (Min) Hummer, and Doug (Cindy) Hummer; and his nieces and nephews, Staci (Tymn) Neece, Lisa (John) Orvos, Keri (Aaron) Wright, Sean (Lori) Dolan, Shannon (Victor) Alvarez, Andrew (Kristina) Dolan, Drew (Krystal) Hummer, Ryan (Jeannine) Hummer, Mitch (Morgan) Hummer, Ricky (Jenn) Hummer, and Jackie (Ryan) Flattery and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research or a charity of your choice. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
