Shirley Rose was born January 17, 1935 in Denver, Colorado. She was the daughter of Molly McKelly and Charles Hudspeth.
Shirley Rose and her parents moved to California where she received her high school diploma from Inglewood High School. She then went to college for 1 year but chose to stop to work full time to help support her family. With a strong work ethic, she worked for the Telephone Company and taught swim lessons to children with physical disabilities.
Shirley Rose married Robert “Bob” Cohen with Clergy officiating in Los Angeles, California. The couple had 2 children: Brandon Dwight and Tiffany Lisa. Shirley’s husband Robert passed away in 1995.
Shirley Rose was a devoted Mother and Homemaker for her family. When her children were both in high-school she went back to work at Sav-On Drug Store where she became the lead cashier and Union Representative. She happily retired at the age of 62.
Shirley Rose loved to stay fit. She walked daily with her friends and neighbors. She loved her cats and dogs. She volunteered at a Grey Hound Rescue Organization where she rescued retired Greyhounds. She was a part of the Bridgewater HOA Board where she lived. Perhaps, Shirley Rose’s greatest enjoyment was spending time with her grandchildren.
Some of the family’s favorite memories of Shirley include her sense of humor, which got better later in life while battling dementia, and her devotion to her family.
Remaining to cherish Shirley’s memory are her children, Brandon and Tiffany and grandchildren, Chloe and Daniel and one of her cat’s Pumpkin.
Shirley’s celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association in Shirley
