She raised her boys overseas with the kind of steady, bright devotion only a military wife can manage—and somehow made every new posting feel like home. Once the boys were grown, she poured that same energy into years at FedEx, then retired with a well-earned grin. Her golden years found her in South Florida, soaking up the sun and enjoying the family she loved, exactly where she wanted to be. Her husband was by her side through sickness and health for 54 years.
She always knew, “There’s no place like home.”
She was preceded in death by her mother, Girles Rackley Collins; her sister, Lois Collins Hinkle; and her brother, Doyle James Collins.
She is survived by her husband, William H. Upton of Delray Beach, Florida; her sons, William C. E. Upton (Monica) and Jason H. Upton (Molly), both of Boca Raton, Florida; her grandson, William C. E. Upton, of Boca Raton, Florida; her granddaughters, Abigail Upton and Emily Upton, of Boca Raton, Florida; her great-grandson, Greyson William Soto; and her granddaughter, Memory Klein.
Sharon will be remembered most for her charity and her devotion to her family. There was no such thing as being too generous or too kind. Every act of kindness was worth its weight in gold, and giving back to her family and others brought her immense joy.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to all the dedicated caregivers and Trustbridge Hospice for the exceptional care, unwavering commitment, and deep compassion they showed Sharon during her final days.
To her cherished family and friends, thank you for never giving up on her and for your continued prayers. Your love and support meant so much.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sharon’s honor to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at https://pancan.org/.
The family will be having a private memorial service at a later date.
