Roger Gladstone Riehl was born on May 25, 1937 in Zion, Illinois. He was blessed to grow up in a town that embraced the healing power of God. In fact, Roger experienced this firsthand when he was healed of a chronic illness after being bedridden for a year.
Roger’s first job was at John Mansville where he worked until he joined the United States Army; he served for four years being stationed in Germany which he absolutely loved and talked about fondly over the years.
On June 4, 1966 he married the love of his life, Caroline Edith Mueller. They enjoyed fifty-seven years together and had three children, Lucinda, Bernadette and Roger. As well as five grandchildren; Heather, Kristen, Ian, Austin and Brooke.
In 1975 Roger moved his family to Florida to open an auto repair business with a relative in Vero Beach. Roger operated his business until 1996, assisted by his son Roger Jr. to whom he taught the auto repair trade and he now operates his own successful repair shop in Tennessee. Roger followed his dream of being a long-distance truck driver later in life and went on the road in 1997 often accompanied by Caroline. They had many adventures together! Roger reluctantly parked his truck for good in 2011. However, he traded it for a Harley on which he and Caroline enjoyed many country rides.
He was very handy and liked to take on various projects ranging from- home and auto to developing new concoctions in the kitchen.
Roger will always be remembered as a spontaneous, fun-loving and un-predictable person who loved God and loved his family. To his kids he’s daddy, his grandkids call him papa, Jesus calls him a son.
A Celebration of Life was held in his honor June 18th.
