Born on August 2, 1947, in Marion, Indiana, Rodger's life was a testament to courage, resilience, and love. As a Vietnam War veteran, he proudly served his country with honor, earning distinction as a two-time Purple Heart recipient. His bravery and commitment to service continue to inspire those who knew him.
Beyond his military accomplishments, Rodger found profound joy in his role as a dedicated family man. He shared an unforgettable bond with the love of his life, Linda Lou Showen Rice, whom he married on March 15, 1969. Although Linda predeceased him, their enduring love story is a cherished legacy that will be remembered by their family.
Rodger is survived by his son, Charles William Rice, daughter-in-law Carly Ann Smith Rice, his daughter Shoady Shea Rice Ortega, son-in-law Juan Carlos Ortega, Jr., and his beloved sisters, Genevia Ann Rice Sage and Mendy Sue Rice Cox. In addition to his children, Rodger was blessed with six grandchildren, who were the light of his life: Nathaniel Wade, Katelyn Elizabeth, Marisol Yelba-Linda, William Rodger, Ronan Rice and Ryann Rose.
Rodger was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where his spirit of service and commitment to his faith left an indelible mark on his community. Known for his lighthearted humor and infectious laughter, Rodger blessed his family and friends with warmth and joy, brightening the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rodger is reunited in peace with his wife, Linda, his brother, Gregory Lynn Rice, and his parents, William Otto Rice and Pauline Elizabeth Davis Rice. In his passing, he joins Linda, walking hand in hand for the rest of eternity.
