Robert John Sharp, 85, of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 28, 2025. Born on March 11, 1939 in Mount Vernon, New York, Robert was the son of Mildred Meinke and Albert Sharp.
Robert, "Bob", grew up in Westport and New Canaan, Connecticut and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1957. He served in the US Army and went on to earn a BS degree in Business from Nichols College in 1963. Bob was an Entrepreneur and an avid car enthusiast, having owned Nissan and Ferrari/Maserati dealerships, but most notably Bob Sharp Motors in Wilton, Connecticut. He was also a very accomplished race car driver, winning countless races and six national championships over the course of 18 years. He retired from driving in 1976 to become a team owner of Bob Sharp Racing, fielding several different drivers including actors Paul Newman and Tom Cruise, sports legend, Walter Peyton and his son, Scott Sharp. Eventually, Paul and Bob collaborated to grow the existing team into the legendary Newman-Sharp Racing.
Bob had a true love for business investments and real estate development. He was well regarded in the greater Connecticut community for his commitment to driver safety and developed a program for teens. Being a Nissan racing pioneer, Bob was inducted into the Sports Car Club of America's Hall of Fame in 2018, being recognized for a lifetime's worth of racing achievements.
Robert's memory lives on through his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Carol Sharp; his children, Scott Sharp and Tammy (Dan) O'Sullivan; grandchildren, Briana Sharp, Jackson Sharp, Hudson Sharp, Selah Sharp, London Sharp, Lily O'Sullivan, John O'Sullivan and Grace O'Sullivan. Bob is also survived by his sister, Lindsey Coombs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Albert Sharp.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in North Palm Beach, Florida on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at 11am.
