Richard Alan Lawson (Hattabaugh) from Franklin, Indiana passed away on February 22nd, 2025, in Davie, Florida. Born on December 11th, 1941, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Everett Bruce Hattabaugh and Anita Louise Banta Hattabaugh. Richard lived a life marked by dedication, service, and commitment to family and community.
Richard graduated from Franklin High School in 1960 before pursuing higher education at Indiana University, earning a Bachelor's degree in 1969. His academic journey continued at Michigan State University, where he obtained an MBA in 1979.
Richard served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from August 1960 through 1964, aboard the USS Yorktown, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was recognized for his exemplary service with a Good Conduct Medal (First Award) and demonstrated exceptional marksmanship in both pistol and rifle. During his time in the military, he served as part of the Military Police.
Richard's early years were shaped by his time growing up in the Franklin Masonic Home beginning in 1947. This experience fostered a lifelong connection to the Masons and Scottish Rite, organizations to which he remained devoted until his passing.
Richard was preceded in death by his mother, Anita Banta (Hattabaugh, Lawson) Harman; father, Everett Bruce Hattabaugh; stepfather, CW “Wally” Lawson; wives Mary Josephine Milhon Lawson and Bettie Loeffel Lawson; daughter Elizabeth Anne Lawson and nephew Douglas Ray Carman.
He is survived by his eldest daughter Alicia Michelle Lawson Pendleton; sister Patricia Lee Hattabaugh Carmen; nephew Andrew Carman; niece Amy Carman Wiley; stepdaughter Michelle Loeffel; grandchildren Victoria and Zachary Mackey and Xavier Pendleton; as well as numerous cousins and loved ones who will cherish his memory.
