Born on May 29,1936 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. Dick was a devoted husband to Judith, his loving wife of 64 years.
He was a committed father to Jay, Paige, and Chad. He was also a proud grandfather to four
grandchildren; Lauren, Rachael, Sydney, and Zachary.
Dick was a voracious reader and scholar, earning his Doctorate in Psychology at the University of
Wisconsin and a proud brother of the Delta Tau Delta at Penn State. While studying for his P.h.D.,
he attended lectures at many universities including Penn State, Pittsburgh, Shippensburg,
Wisconsin, and Delaware. He believed education was a crucial part of life and continued to pursue
it throughout his many years. The quest for education was something he instilled in his children
and grandchildren- one of his many legacies. During his career, he worked for the Veterans
Administration in Perry Point, Maryland and Elsmere in Delaware as Chief of Psychology for over 35
years.
Later on in his life, he grew into a number of hobbies that tapped into his creative side. He
enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, painting, and renovating his homes. One of the family’s favorite
homes he renovated was the one in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. Stone Harbor was a special place for
Dick, as he spent 52 years there at the beach with friends and family.
Traveling was also a very important part of his life. He and Judy took many trips together,
enjoying culture and life. Dick was a conversationalist at heart. He enjoyed engaging in
intellectual conversations and offering his wisdom. He loved to share his experiences in travel and
life.
Dick loved his family deeply. He is survived by his wife, Judith Holman; his son, Chad Holman and
wife, Robin; his daughter Paige Holman; and his four grandchildren, Lauren and husband, Brian,
Rachael, Sydney, and Zachary Holman.
The last year of his life had been difficult for him and the family, as his health limited his
freedom. His passing was peaceful and on his own terms. Those who knew Dick will remember him for
his strong will and thriving nature. Even just before he passed, he was to move into a new
community with his wife and start a new chapter together. His life was full of determination,
resilience, wonder, creativity, humor, and love. Dick will be remembered as a dedicated husband,
father, grandfather, and friend. He is loved deeply and will be missed greatly.
