Ralph S. Miller
Ralph S. Miller, 83, passed away after a short illness on February 13, 2025, in Boca Raton, Florida.
Ralph grew up in Cortland NY, and graduated from Cortland High School, Class of 1959. By his own admission, Ralph was more athlete than scholar; he excelled in baseball in high school, college, and the military.
He was predeceased by brothers, William and Jack, and his longtime friends and companions Normand Guilbault and Ryan Goldizen. He was also predeceased by his parents Helen (Collier) Miller, and Ralph S Miller, Sr. Ralph is also survived by nieces, Linda Miller, Janice Miller, and Karen Fenner, and nephews, Jack Miller and Steve Miller and several great nieces and nephews.
After high school, Ralph enlisted in the United States Army. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Binghamton in 1967. After moving to Florida, he earned a master’s degree in education from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. Ralph was employed as a Florida State Rehabilitation Counselor and later as a School Guidance Counselor at Western High School, Ft Lauderdale. He retired in 2000. Ralph was a member of the American Legion, the Marine Corp Heritage Foundation, the Civil War Preservation Trust, the Sierra Club, 1000 Friends of Florida, and the Doberman Rescue League.
Ralph moved to Florida in 1967; and while maintaining his Cortland roots, he nevertheless he came to love "Old Florida." Ralph enjoyed nature, environmental causes, the ocean and beaches, the Florida Keys and exploring small town Florida. He was an avid reader, especially of the Civil War, American History and Politics.
Ralph also enjoyed gardening, fishing, swimming in his pool, nature photography, traveling, and the Miami Dolphins. Ralph loved his Dobermans, Ruby, Jake, Baron, and especially Alice (all now deceased)
Ralph Miller was a kind and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was beloved by his family for his roles as the family comedian and the family historian. Ralph will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He will be interred with military honors at the South Florida National Veteran's Cemetery, Lake Worth, Florida. His family will hold a celebration of Ralph’s life in Boca Raton on March 22nd.
