After high school, she moved from Michigan to Ft. Lauderdale where she met the love of her life, R. Robert Jackson. He adored her and made sure he stayed well long enough to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary before passing away a few months later in 2008.
After many years as a loan officer at multiple banks, she retired to pursue her hobbies and interests including sewing, gardening, and cooking. She belonged to the rose garden committee at John Knox Village where she would help prune and keep the garden beautiful for the residents, but her favorite was growing orchids. With her green thumb, she loved going on “orchid rambles” and collecting beautiful and exotic species. She was always ready to join her friends at John Knox for a fun lunch or dinner and loved her Friday lunches with her daughter and other friends. Her other favorite pastime was cooking and trying new recipes, but she mastered her famous English muffin bread which her whole family loved.
Her family and friends will remember her kindness and her quiet and loving demeanor. She loved holidays, birthdays, and family gatherings so she could spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved “cookie day” with her grand and great grandkids at Christmas time. She will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bob, their son, Greg Jackson, her brother Jimmy, and her two sisters, Glad and Fran. She is survived by her sons Allan and Keith, daughter Kim (Mark), daughter-in-law Claudette, grandchildren Hiddo (Sarah), Jessica (Travis), Erika (Johnny) and Brett, and her great grandchildren Jake, Hannah, Skylar, Aurora, and Astrid, and her brother Ed (Ginny).
John Knox will perform a service for Phyllis and other residents on Thursday October 26th at 4:00 PM in the auditorium. Friends are invited to attend. The family will hold a private scattering of ashes in November.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her honor to St Jude Children Society.
