Mike was born in 1934 in New York, NY. He was the eldest son of Louis Grieco and Gertrude (McDonald) Grieco, who preceded him in death.
Mike grew up in Lawrence, Mass., where he attended school. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951, serving on the Destroyer USS Ingraham before graduating from the Navy Hospital Corps school in September 1953. Mike was assigned to Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, as a physician's assistant at the base hospital. He finished his enlistment at the Navy recruiting station in Bainbridge, Maryland, in 1955.
Mike returned to Lawrence, where he met his wife of nearly 67 years, Sandra (Armitage) Grieco. Mike and Sandy both went to work for Western Electric in North Andover, MA. Eventually, they settled in Salem, NH, where they raised their family.
Throughout the 1960s and early 1970s, Mike was active in the Western Electric employee's union. He served as an executive board member, vice president, and president of Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1365. Mike was appointed to CWA national staff in 1973. He negotiated labor agreements for Merrimack Valley Works of AT&T employees and became active in politics, tirelessly supporting state and federal candidates who strongly supported unions. He relocated to Florida in 1990 and retired from CWA in 1995.
Mike served in the New Hampshire legislature as a state representative from Salem. He also served on the New Hampshire Housing Finance Authority and was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mike is survived by his wife, Sandy, and their three children, Robert Grieco (Tammy) of Louisville, KY, Donna Castricone (Bob) of Raymond, NH, and Lynda Lusardi (Gary) of Pompano Beach, FL.
He is also survived by a sister Theresa Fay (Raymond) of Hampton, NH, grandchildren Kristy Canello (Joe), Brendan Grieco, Cameron (CJ) Grieco, and Brett Lusardi, great-grandchild Rowan Grieco, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Finochiaro, and a brother, Frank Grieco.
A Celebration of Michael's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Michael's honor.
