Born to the late Nickolaus & Elizabeth Kurzdorfer in Pittsburgh, PA, Marlene was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Herbert M Lee & her sister, Ruth Greges. Survivors include Tedd (Dawn) Lee of Sunrise, FL and Amy (Ed) Stahr of Maricopa, AZ, and her grandsons Nickolaus and Trevor Lee & Jacob and Kyle Stahr.
After receiving her Bachelors in teaching from Slippery Rock University and her Masters in Library Science at the University of South Florida, Marlene had a rich & fulfilling career as the Children’s Coordinator for the Broward County Library System. She had a passion for the enrichment of children’s lives & working with children was one of her greatest joys. One of her greatest sources of pride was her work with the Children’s Summer Reading Program.
The recipient of numerous awards, she was First Lady of Broward County & Plantation Women’s Club Woman of the Year. She was honored by the Sun Sentinel as Emptynest Mom of the Year. She was asked twice to be listed in Who’s Who & declined due to her humble nature. She was also a Caldicot Judge & a regular reader on the children’s program, Duck, Duck, Goose.
Marlene was extremely active in her community. Whether she was president, vice president, secretary or just a member, she was always super involved with the PEO, Friends of the Library, the Plantation Women’s Club, National Library Association, and many personal social groups — she was a joiner. She loved being around people and people loved having her around. And, we can’t forget to mention that Marlene is survived by her abundance of friends. She had so many friends because she was a good friend to all.
