Ms. Madden is survived by four daughters: Ann Slack Gold and husband Allan Gold of Leicester, NC; Paula Slack of Deerfield Beach, FL; Maura Madden of Newton, MA; and Shawna Slack of West Newton, MA; her five grandchildren Kelsey Ann Madden and husband Steven Dowdy of Swampscott, MA; Andy Sermos (and his partner Jill Toomey) of Worcester, MA; Aidan Slack-Watkins, Maeve Slack-Watkins and Niall Slack-Watkins of Newton, MA, and her great granddaughter Liesl Lee Dowdy.
Lee was an avid ballroom dancer, a fan of philosophy, a lover of jazz, and above all a creative, curious, compassionate and courageous woman with a philanthropic heart. Lee always carved out time to help those in her life, and beyond, who were in need. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross, an ombudsman overseeing nursing homes in Massachusetts, and a long-time volunteer for Hospice-by-the-Sea in Boca Raton. Lee studied interior design at Chamberlain Junior College and the Boston Architectural College and worked in interior design until she began a career working with dementia patients, include working with patients at Florida Atlantic University’s Dementia Prevention Program.
Lee will be buried at the Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA, in a family ceremony. Donations in her honor can be made to Hospice by the Sea at Donate Now | Trustbridge Hospice Foundation or Trustbridge Hospice, 530 East Ave., W. Palm Beach, FL 33407.
