Kenneth H. Rawe, contractor, decorated veteran, sportsman June 5, 1923- Aug 12, 2017 Kenneth H. Rawe of Port St. Lucie, Florida and East Amherst, New York, a retired civil engineer, contractor and decorated World War II veteran passed away on August 12th at Treasure Coast Hospice House. He was 94. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of the late Harry K. Rawe and Nora Stumm Rawe. He was a graduate of Kenmore High School and attended Antioch College, Harvard University and University of Buffalo. He served in the Army as a PFC during World War II. He served three years with the 3rd Infantry Battalion, Company I, 101st Infantry Regiment, 24th Yankee Division. He was seriously wounded at Guebling, France on November 18, 1944, for which he was awarded a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and French Legion of Honor. After his military service, he began his career in heavy construction with NYSDOT. In 1952, he joined Depew Paving and earned his Professional Engineering License in 1956. In 1973, he became a partner in Oakgrove Construction Inc., specializing in bridge and road construction and retired in 1990. His other business ventures included Rawe and Barbera Consulting Engineers, Bush Gardens, Eiger Storage, Virgil Apartments and Swift River Associates, Inc. Ken’s passion for sports included golf, skiing, hockey and fishing. He was a member of Brookfield Country Club, The Legacy, and Buffalo Ski Club. An avid golfer, Ken was proud to shoot his age over 100 times and had 7 holes in one. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Rosemary (nee Walthard) , sons Kenneth Jr (Susan) and David , daughter Wendy Lear (Robert), a sister Jean Rawe Avery, a brother Robert and his grandchildren Andrew Rawe (Elizabeth), Kimberly Rawe Schofield (Jason), Taylor Lear Kron (Nick), Brittany Lear, and Morgan Lear, and his great grandchildren Tyler Schofield and Alexis Schofield. A memorial service will be held at Indian River Presbyterian Church in Port St. Lucie in the future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 1201 SE Indian Street Stuart, Florida 34997.
