She graduated from Wareham High School in 1960 and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1964.
She was a passionate and dedicated English teacher. During her 45-year career, she taught at Marlborough High School and Wareham High School in Massachusetts and retired from Dillard High School in Fort Lauderdale in 2013 where she received Teacher of the Year. She touched the lives of so many with her care and compassion for each and every student. She demonstrated her commitment to learning through her scholarships to students pursuing advanced studies.
Juli had a strong sense of fairness and opportunity, volunteering as a Guardian ad Litem (GAL) to provide support to Florida’s most vulnerable children after her retirement. Juli also supported Dillard High School’s basketball teams and was an avid fan.
She was an active member of the Broward County Retired Educators Association and the Plantation Acres Women’s Club.
Juli loved to read and sew. She had a passion for travel, enjoying trips to Europe and Latin America, cruises in Alaska and the Caribbean, road trips to California, and hiking the Grand Canyon.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Louise Bernice Cole, and her father, Edwin Cole, Jr.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Robert D. Patten, her daughter, Melissa Hambly-Larios, son-in-law, Jose Larios, and her grandson, Andres Larios. She will be lovingly remembered by her stepdaughters Lisa Cunningham, Sandy Huff, Wendy Lambert, Jennifer Patten, and their families.
She will be dearly missed by her friends at Springtree Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
