Judith Rae (Wasser) Schiff, aged 82, of Delray Beach, Florida passed away on the evening of December 12, 2024. Judy spent her early years in Red Bank, NJ, until relocating with her family to Rome, New York, where she graduated from Rome Free Academy. Even while residing upstate in Rome, she spent her summers on the Jersey Shore with her extended family, and eagerly returned there after high school, eventually enrolling in Monmouth University where she earned her teaching certificate in elementary education in 1965. Judy’s first of many varied teaching positions was in the second-grade classroom at Nut Swamp School in Middletown, NJ. During this period, she met Abraham Harry “Hank” Schiff, who was her next-door neighbor in Asbury Park, NJ. Family lore has it that Judy initially agreed to date Hank because he owned an airconditioned car during a particularly hot summer. Judy and Hank fell in love and married in 1969, and raised their two daughters, Stacy and Robyn, in Metuchen, NJ. Judy retired from a fulfilling and impactful teaching career after twenty years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist at the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center. Judy was a literacy advocate, voracious reader, and enthusiast of the arts, especially musical theater. She was happiest humming Oklahoma!, playing Scrabble, and enjoying a long novel beside many beloved cats over the years. Judy is survived by her daughters, Stacy Schiff and Robyn Schiff; her son-in-law, Nicholas Twemlow; her grandchildren, Olivia Davis, Sacha Twemlow, and Ethan Davis; and her sister, Anita (Wasser) Bucknam. She was predeceased by her adoring husband; parents, Milton “Larry” Wasser and Sylvia (Levinsky) Wasser; and her brother, Leonard Wasser.
