Lake Worth, FL – Joseph G. Mezey, 91, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 27, 2019 at the VA Hospital Hospice Care Unit West Palm Beach, Florida. He was the husband of Suzanne (Beaudoin) Mezey, his loving wife of 50 years.
Born in Bridgeport, CT on November 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Joseph and Margaret Mezey. He attended school in Bridgeport and Wallingford, CT. Joseph was a veteran and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He enlisted in 1946 and received an honorable discharge in 1947. Joseph joined the Second Company Governor’s Foot Guard in 1961 and won the coveted Charleston Medal in 1962. He was a Sergeant and member for 25 years. A resident of Meriden, CT for many years, Joseph was a member of VFW Post 491 and American Legion Post 187. He was also a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. Joseph was a member of St. Rose Church and served as Chairman and Co-Chairman of the Holy Trinity Retreat League. He was also a member of the Hungarian Club of Wallingford. Joseph is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and was an excellent chef. He was employed by Tilcon Tomasso for 33 years until his retirement. He moved to Florida when he retired and was a member of Trinity Church International.
Joseph enjoyed bowling, golfing, ping pong and playing the harmonica. He was an avid sports fan, namely baseball, basketball and football. He was the biggest fan at his sons’ sporting events and throughout their lives. He will be dearly missed.
Besides his wife Suzanne, Joseph is survived by his two sons, Stephen of Meriden, CT and Thomas of Seattle, WA. He will also be missed by his cherished sister, Irene Madar of Bradenton, FL as well as many loving relatives from Canada.

In addition, the family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the VA Hospice Care Unit medical staff and volunteers for their remarkable level of compassion, love and professionalism.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a memorial service with military honors to be held on Thursday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 S. State Road 7, Lake Worth, FL 33449.
