

Mr. Funston was born on June 19, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late John and Marion Funston. He graduated from Haddonfield High School and attended Glassboro State, Class of 1965. He worked for Pennsauken School District as a high school social studies teacher and then vice principal, eventually becoming a principal of various elementary schools. He then became the superintendent of Hainesport School District overseeing the construction of new school facilities.
After retiring in 2000, he became an educational consultant assisting many of the Charter Schools in Philadelphia. In association with Cabrini University, he taught graduate courses in school administration and leadership to aspiring school leaders in the Philadelphia School District.
Mr. Funston loved to travel and sailed up and down the Eastern seaboard, eventually resettling in Stuart with his late wife, Henrietta. He did long distance bicycle riding and served as vestry at St Mary’s Church.
Survivors include his two sons, John Funston and his wife Milagros Saez of Lititz, PA, and Joel Funston of Key West, Florida; a daughter, Candace Funston of Mullica Hill, NJ; three grandchildren, Alexander, Lora, and Erin Funston, and his sister Karen Levering of Charlotteville, Va.
