August 8, 1942 – April 11, 2026
Today, we celebrate a life well lived—a man who fought the good fight, finished the race, and now walks in complete healing and victory.
James Dennis Wilson, lovingly known as Jim and Uncle Jimmy to so many, peacefully entered into eternal glory at the age of 83 with his loving and devoted sister by his side.
Jim was born on August 8, 1942, to John and Eleanor Wilson in Michigan City, Indiana. He grew up in North Fort Myers, where from an early age he developed a deep love for the water—fishing, boating, and soaking in the beauty of life alongside family and friends. His years in Fort Myers and St. James City on Pine Island were filled with laughter, connection, and the kind of memories that anchor a lifetime.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1961 to 1965, including service in Vietnam. His life was marked by quiet strength, resilience, and a deep commitment to others.
For over 40 years, Jim served as a Registered Nurse in South Florida, dedicating his life to caring for people in their most vulnerable moments. He retired from Delray Medical Center, where his compassion, steadiness, and servant’s heart left an imprint on countless lives—patients, families, and colleagues alike.
In retirement, Jim moved to St. James City full time until Hurricane Ian. He carried on the family legacy of Pine Island life, where his grandfather, John F. Wilson, and his parents, John and Eleanor, had also settled—living a life rooted in the water, connection, and deep family ties.
He endured great loss when Hurricane Ian took his home, leading him to relocate to Loxahatchee, Florida. Yet even in that, his strength and spirit remained unwavering. In the final four months of his life, Jim courageously battled glioblastoma, surrounded by the love of family and friends who never left his side. In the end, he was not defeated—he was victorious.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth (“Ruthie”) “Corky” McCorkendale, the love of his life. Their love story was one of devotion, partnership, and deep affection that continues to echo through the family he cherished.
He is survived by his brother, Tom Wilson; his sister, Toni Jankowski; and his brother-in-law, Frederick Jankowski, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind a wide circle of dear friends who became like family—each one touched by his generosity, humor, and unwavering love.
Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and faith. His life reminds us what it means to show up for one another, to give freely, and to live deeply connected. His family and friends will continue to carry the torch—honoring his life by loving well, standing strong, and staying rooted in what matters most.
Jim was a giver—of his time, his resources, and his heart. He faithfully supported many individuals and organizations throughout his life, always looking for ways to bless others quietly and generously.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to:

Well done, good and faithful servant.
You are deeply loved. You are forever remembered. Forever in our hearts.
“Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18
