Hugh Mark Fulton passed away Wednesday, March 8th, 2023. Proceeded in death by mother, Peggy Anderson, father, Wayne Fulton, step-mother, Joan Fulton and brother, George Showak. Survived and will be forever missed by niece, Hannah Showak, close friends including Jan Rothstein, MaryBeth Davis, Annie Donnelly, Peter Brandt and so many more beloved friends, customers and business partners.
Born November 2nd, 1961 in New York, Hugh grew up in and exploring the city’s eclectic West Village neighborhood. He studied at Colorado’s Regis University where he went on to work in the back offices of Wall Street in the 1980s. However, having an entrepreneur spirit since childhood (his close friend Jan recalls them selling buttons they made at midnight screenings of the Rocky Horror Show as kids), he then worked in hospitality in the DC Metro area, eventually launching his first business, a small deli in coastal Florida. It was his career proceeding that though, finding and selling crafts, where he truly perfected his small business skills. These all led him to his final and most successful endeavor of over 20 years, Bali Importers. He visited and handpicked items from Bali, bought and sold these incredibly unique treasures from his storefront in Lake Worth, all while keeping his pulse on his local community’s needs and hearts.
Hugh loved to travel, cook, bake, laugh (at the expense of everyone including himself), converse (especially if you were a New Yorker) and slyly beat an opponent in Backgammon (as his dear friend Marybeth shared- he beat her every single game, starting at the age of 12). And with the kindest soul, he was always willing to help, listen and lighten the darkest days with advice, sarcasm or even a joke. He was beyond loyal which is evident by the countless stories all who’ve known him have shared since his passing.
A virtual service/memorial will be held to celebrate Hugh this Saturday, April 8th at 12pm EST. For additional details or to attend please contact his niece, Hannah Showak ([email protected]).
Hugh will be forever loved, missed and celebrated by his family, friends, customers and community.
