Homer M. Hevlow Jr. of Margate, Florida passed away on January 6, 2024 at the age of 92. He was born on August 26, 1931 in Dover, Ohio where he lived with his parents Homer M. Hevlow Sr. and Nelle (McMasters) Hevlow until they moved to Canton, Ohio during the early days of World War II.
Homer graduated from Canton’s Lincoln High School in 1949. It was at Lincoln HS that he met Donna Mae Shearer, his wife of 60 years. Homer and Donna were married on May 2, 1951. Homer and Donna had four children: John, Linda (Liston), Nancy (Smith), and Richard. Homer’s passing is mourned by his loving family that includes 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Homer was a US Air Force Veteran, serving his country at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, LA during 1951/1952. After his service, Homer and Donna lived in the Canton area for 23 years, rearing their family, worshiping at the First Methodist Church in Canton, and working at the Hoover Company in North Canton. In 1974 they relocated to Hollywood, Florida where they were active members of the Hollywood Hills United Methodist Church and Homer worked at Aero-Cast as their Quality Control Manager. In 1997 Homer and Donna moved to Lady Lake, Florida where they were active members of the Water Oak Retirement Community and the First Methodist Church in Fruitland, Florida. After Donna’s passing in July 2011, Homer moved back to south Florida, where he lived in the Coral Cay Plantation Retirement community in Margate.
A memorial service will be held at the First Methodist Church in Fruitland, Florida in February 2024.
