Frederick “Fritz” Alfred Foss died suddenly and unexpectedly of natural causes in Ft. Lauderdale, FL on August 14, 2017 at the age of 63. Fritz was born in Rockville Center, NY in 1953, the son of Alfred and Gladys Foss, and grew up in Valley Stream and Bellmore on Long Island, NY. He is survived by a sister (Catherine Lorraine Griffin), a brother (Stephen Eugene Foss), an aunt (Grace Miller) and five nieces and nephews.
Fritz was a gentle soul with a zest for adventure, which took him on quests throughout North America and the Caribbean. He also journeyed extensively across Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and New Zealand. His passports are full of fascinating stamps. Whether hiking on the Milford Track in New Zealand, on the Appalachian Trail in the Smokey’s, or climbing Mt. Washington in New England, he often liked to see the world on foot. Alternatively, on one long trek, Fritz rode his Harley Sportster across the US, throughout the West, and back to South Florida. He also had a particular interest in London, taking trips there with several of his nieces and nephews.
Fritz was a loyal and well-liked employee at Port Everglades, FL for 32 years. He started with Belcher Oil and ended, after several ownership changes in between, with TransMontaigne, Inc. His most recent work responsibilities included operating high-pressure pumps to load fuel onto large cruise ships and other vessels docked in Port Everglades.
Fritz was a life-long learner. He attended the State University of New York at Geneseo, and later studied topics such as Spanish, World History and the Bible. He had an interest in family history as well. Fritz was a careful genealogist, tracing his family’s ancestry across northern Europe, collecting and archiving numerous photographs, and compiling a comprehensive family tree.
He is missed deeply by his family and friends.
