DAVID JOSEPH LAVELLE departed this earthly life January 15, 2019 at Trustbridge (Hospice by the Sea) in John Knox Village, Pompano Beach, Florida after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and a shorter one with cancer. Resident of Pompano Beach, formerly of Ft Lauderdale, Florida and Jersey City and Edgewater, New Jersey. Born August 28, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Mary Jane (Surgenor) and Patrick Aloysius Lavelle, both deceased. Also predeceased by ex-wife Helen, brothers Patrick, John (Ed) and Richard, sister Eileen (Diane), sisters-in-law Helen and Anne and niece Jessica. Survived by son David Gary (Kim) of Woodlawn, TN, grandchildren Ian of Cleveland, OH and Brinna of Woodlawn TN, lover and husband of 44 years Bruce McBean of Pompano Beach, FL, sister-in-law Dolores of Brookhaven, PA, siblings Thomas (Marshall Smith) of North Hollywood, CA, Gerard (Rosa Bong) of Pottstown PA and Las Vegas NV, Lawrence (Eliss) of Holland, PA, Daniel (Susan) of Coopersberg, PA, Joseph (Barbara) of Havertown, PA, Maureen (Joseph) Dougherty of Santa Paula, CA and Steven (Kit) of Elkins Park, PA, fifteen nieces and nephews and their spouses, many great nieces and nephews and countless friends. U.S. Air Force veteran, accountant by profession, friend to many. Possessed of great wit, winning personality, warmth and compassion, lover of theater, dance, concert, sport and a good laugh, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
At his request, there will be no service. Cremation and scattering of ashes by Neptune Society.
