

Charles F. Hermann III, a devoted community leader, respected banking professional, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Fort Pierce, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of service, generosity, and unwavering commitment to others.
Mr. Hermann dedicated much of his professional life to the Richmond County Savings Bank, a division of New York Community Bancorp, where he began his career in 1968 following his service in the United States Army as a Military Policeman (1962–1968). Over the course of more than three decades, he earned the respect of colleagues and the community alike, ultimately retiring in March 1999 as Senior Vice President of Special Projects.
A graduate of the American Institute of Banking, Mr. Hermann also attended St. John’s University. His passion for service extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was deeply involved in the Staten Island community, holding numerous leadership roles and contributing to a wide range of organizations. He served on the Board of Trustees of the Seamen’s Society for Children and Families, was an Advisory Board member of the Staten Island Chapter of the New York Urban League, and contributed his time and expertise to organizations including the American Cancer Society, the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (SERVE), and the Alzheimer’s Foundation of Staten Island, among many others.
His commitment to civic engagement included past leadership roles such as President of the Richmond County Bankers Association and First Vice President of the Staten Island Security Managers and Directors. He also served on various boards and committees supporting education, healthcare, and workforce development initiatives across the region.
Throughout his life, Mr. Hermann was recognized with numerous honors reflecting his dedication to service, including the prestigious Paul Harris Fellow award from Rotary International and the Good Scout Award from the Staten Island Council of the Boy Scouts of America. These accolades, among many others, stand as a testament to his enduring impact on his community.
Born in the West Brighton section of Staten Island in 1943, Mr. Hermann remained a lifelong resident of the North Shore, later residing in Port Richmond. He cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his loving wife, Brigitte; his four children, Vera, Charles, Nancy, and Kent; eight cherished grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Charles F. Hermann III will be remembered for his integrity, compassion, and steadfast dedication to improving the lives of others. His legacy will continue to inspire all who knew him.
