With deep love and sorrow, we announce the passing of Carol E. (Michak) Palermo, a devoted matriarch and treasured companion, on February 18, 2025, in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, at the age of 84.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA in 1940, Carol graduated from Kingston High School, where she excelled in her studies and was involved in many extra-curricular activities. She was an accomplished French horn player, for example, selected for the state band, and for a while played with a local, formerly all-male orchestra where she earned some outside income. She also worked during several summers in Atlantic City, NJ, where a neighbor from Kingston, PA supervised dance and acrobatic shows on the famous Steel Pier.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Misericordia University and a master’s certificate from Temple University. Carol dedicated many years of her life to shaping young minds as an elementary school teacher, leaving a lasting impact on her students and their families. Her passion for education and her gift for inspiring others made her a beloved figure in the schools and communities she served. Yet, of all the roles she embraced in life, none brought her more happiness than being a mother and grandmother.
Carol’s greatest joy came from time spent with family and dear friends, whom she cherished deeply. She is survived by her children, Kim Pasquale (Jim) and Rick Palermo (Renata); her grandchildren, Jake and Kyle Pasquale; her brother Don Michak (Carol MacColl); sisters-in-law, Nancy Recupero and Ann Michak Ott; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Louis Palermo; her siblings, Eugene, Francis, and Jean Ann Stock; and her parents, Frank and Anna Michak.
Even in her final days, Carol’s warmth, curiosity, and kindness never wavered. She carried herself with grace and compassion, always finding beauty in the world and in the people around her. She expressed deep gratitude for a life well-lived—one filled with meaningful connections, cherished memories, and the joy of shaping young minds as a dedicated educator.
The family will honor Carol with a celebration of life service at a later date. They would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and aides of VITAS Hospice & Palliative Care in Broward County, FL, for the compassionate care shown to Carol in her final days.
