Born on September 29, 1940, in Butler, PA, Carol lived a life filled with warmth, laughter, and kindness. She was a joyful spirit who touched the lives of everyone she met. Carol was not only a devoted mother and grandmother but also a cherished friend to many.
Throughout her life, Carol embraced each new chapter with an open heart and a positive outlook. She lived in several places, including Butler PA, the Buffalo NY area, Durham NH, Ontario Canada, and finally, the sunny warmth of southern Florida. In every location, she built lasting friendships and created wonderful memories.
She was very involved in her children’s activities and the community, including t-ball and soccer coach, Cub Scout den leader, PTO president, youth center co-founder, and youth association board member.
Carol was an avid sports fan. In addition to supporting her children’s and grandchildren’s numerous sporting events, she had a keen interest in watching professional and college action. Besides cheering from the stands, Carol participated in synchronized swimming, tennis, and bowling.
Her favorite memories were of time spent with family at their beloved annual vacation spot on Marco Island, relaxing by the pool, enjoying stunning sunsets, and engaging in lively family games of Tripoley or cards.
Called "Nana" by many, Carol's greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was always ready with a kind word, a listening ear, and a love that knew no bounds. Carol will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and friendship will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Carol is survived by her four children: Deborah Schoonover (Keith), Michael May (Vivian), David May (Carolyn), Gregory May (Erika); and eleven grandchildren: Brett Schoonover, Nicole, Derek, Ryan, and Tyler May, Hayley and Brady May, Savanna and Lily May, Kaylee Farley, and Adam Alire. She was the only child of the late Charles Boyles and Esther Louise (Byers) Atwell.
Carol’s family will hold a private gathering to scatter her ashes at sea off the coast of Marco Island. Those wishing to honor Carol’s memory are invited to make a donation in her name to the First Church of Coral Springs in Coral Springs, Florida.
