Becky Lynn McIver, 55, passed away October 18th, 2017 in Ft. Lauderdale and is cherished and remembered by her loving family and friends. Becky was born in Ft. Pierce, FL. November 30, 1961. She attended John Carroll High School in Ft. Pierce where she accomplished the amazing feat of lettering in four different sports. She was an incredible athlete who became the first female to ever win the Athlete of the Year for the tri-county (St. Lucie/Indian River/Martin) area. Tennis was Becky’s favorite competitive sport as a child. She played volleyball for the first time during her junior year of high school. By her senior year she had developed into John Carroll’s most potent offensive weapon and led the team to an undefeated season along with the AA State Championship. Watching Becky play volleyball was a work of art. It was like a beautiful, yet, powerful ballet. After just two years of playing volleyball Becky was offered a full scholarship to the University of Georgia. After college Becky played Pro Beach Volleyball and was a teacher and coach at South Fork High School in Indian Town, FL. Becky’s passion for sports was only surpassed by her passion for life and to help others where she continued to excel. Becky received her Master’s Degree in Mental Health from Nova Southeastern University and worked at Parkway Regional Medical Center as a Licensed Mental Health Therapist in the Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit. She later worked at Jackson Memorial Hospital in the Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Department specializing in adolescent borderline disorder. Becky touched many people throughout her career from grieving seniors to embattled youth, while passing on her wisdom and experience by supervising interns. Her career, as with her life, was characterized by compassion, empathy and integrity. People were drawn to Becky’s captivating personality and clever sense of humor. Her strength, spirituality and courage were awe inspiring. Her family and friends referred to her as “Wonder Woman," a nickname that was well deserved. She touched the lives of many. Becky will be greatly missed but the imprint she left on this earth will last forever and we are better for having had her in our lives. Becky is survived by her parents Larry McIver and Vange Cesarotti; brother Billy Ford McIver; sister Joni Jill Buster and her husband Jeff; niece Jenny-lyn McClain, her husband Jesse and their two children Sloane and Knox; her nephew Jeffery Buster, his wife Chrissy and their two children Trey and Blake. In lieu of flowers and to honor the memory of Becky McIver the family has chosen to establish the “Becky McIver Female Athlete Scholarship Fund” at John Carroll High School.
