Barbara N. Taylor was born in Langhorne, PA, on June 4, 1928. She was soon adopted by Earle H. and Helen Nodine and named Barbara Jane Nodine. She spent her childhood in Amherst, MA, where she attended and graduated from Amherst High School. At 17, Barbara entered the University of Rochester (New York) Nursing Program and received her RN. She met and married medical student Paul W. Taylor, Jr. on November 25, 1950. The Taylors had four children – Kristen, Paul III (Terry), Donald, and David.
After moving several times for Dr. Taylor’s education, the couple settled in Vero Beach, FL. While there, Barbara served as the first choir director and church secretary of Christ Methodist by the Sea. Barbara was also a devoted “swim mom” while her three oldest children participated in AAU and high school swim teams. As a talented soprano, Barbara contributed to several Vero Beach Theatre Guild musicals; she won Best Character Actress for her portrayal of Aunt Eller in Oklahoma! In 1984, Barbara returned to Amherst to care for her elderly father. After Earle’s passing, Barbara remained in Amherst where she worked at the Amherst Senior Center until she moved to Tarpon Springs, FL, in 2004. Another move to Stuart, FL, in 2006 led her to volunteering at the South Hospital in Martin County where she enjoyed serving as the chairman of the Volunteers.
Barbara’s other interests included tackling level 4 Sudoku puzzles, reading, playing Hand and Foot and Mexican Train at the Montego Cove clubhouse, dining out, and laughing. She is predeceased by her sons Donald and David. She is survived by her daughter Kristen Lee Taylor, son Paul W. Taylor III, and grandson Cody Taylor. A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming weeks. Details are forthcoming.
