Born on March 8, 1938, in Queens, New York, Arthur was the son of Joseph and Mildred Nathanson. He was first married to Janet Nathanson, with whom they had their son Mitchell. After their marriage ended, he later married Arlene Nathanson, a union that lasted over 20 years with no other children. Arlene predeceased Arthur in 2007.
In 2011, Arthur moved to Florida where he later met Lauren Wahl while volunteering at the Kravitz Center. Lauren and Arthur enjoyed cruising around the world, going to the theater, movies, museums, costume parties, and sitting outside under the trees chatting with friends. They committed their lives to each other until Lauren’s passing in 2022.
Arthur served in active duty as a Seaman in the U.S. Navy in the Commandant Third Naval District from 1957 to 1961. Upon his honorable discharge, Arthur became a partner in his father’s industrial hardware supply business in Long Island City, New York, eventually taking over the business after his father’s death. He retired from the industrial hardware business in 2000 and moved to a bungalow in Brooklyn with Arlene. There, they both found their love for creating art, taking scenic landscape photographs, and developing a 'green thumb' with plants. This love stayed with Arthur until the very end of his life.
Arthur is survived by his son Mitchell, and his wife Christina of Stamford, Connecticut. He also leaves behind his grandson, Joseph, who brought great joy and pride to his life. In addition, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Consovoy, with whom he shared a bond of love and friendship. Lois can be credited to bringing him to Florida to retire.
An interment service will be held at 9:30 AM, Friday, January 12, 2024, in the Columbarium Complex at South Florida National Cemetery. Please arrive at Lane 3 at least 15 minutes early.
Arthur was a very proud U.S. Navy veteran, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
